Once upon a time, Dr. Fauci had a HUGE amount of the public trust. At one point, surpassing the popularity of the President of the United States. Today, not so much. Why? One reason is Dr. Fauci and his constant flip flopping on health issues; most notably mask wearing. Here is a quick timeline on his positions, all based on “science.”

Got the vaccine? Still wear the mask
This from Business Insider…
“I said a combination of an effective vaccine and adherence to certain public-health principles will get us to the point where we want to be, by the end of 2021,” Fauci said during a lunchtime call over pizza on Wednesday. “I never said just the vaccine. You never should abandon the public-health measures.”
Fauci not very optimistic that Covid will ever go away completely. He said this…
“I don’t think we’re going to eradicate it,” Fauci said of the coronavirus. “We may not completely eliminate it, but if you get it down to such a very low level, and enough of the population is protected — either by a vaccine or by previously having been infected — then you’ll develop a degree of herd immunity that you won’t have an outbreak.”

Double masking is best
“If you have a physical covering with one layer, you put another layer on it, just makes common sense that it likely would be more effective,” Fauci told NBC News.
As a side note, some experts have argued for triple masking.

Fauci tells Fox News that masks will be necessary until Covid-19 is “not a threat at all.” Here is a quote. The actual video follows it.
“Is there going to be a time when we are going to be, no masks?” Fox News anchor Bret Baier asked Fauci. “When is that time? If you had to guess, going to a sports game, going to a theater, going to a concert without a mask?”
“That will really be dependent upon how we get the level of virus in the community down,” Fauci answered. “If we can get — and I have used this as an estimate, it’s not definitive — but if we can get 70 to 85 percent of the population vaccinated, and get to what we would hope would be to a degree of herd immunity, which really is an umbrella or a veil of protection against the community, where the level of virus is so low it’s not a threat at all, then at that point, you can start thinking in terms of not having to have uniform wearing of masks.”
“If everything falls into the right place and we get this under control, it is conceivable that you might be able to pull back a bit on some of the public health measures as we get into the late fall of this year,” he continued. “But there’s no guarantee of that, because if we don’t get the overwhelming majority of the population vaccinated, there’s still going be a considerable amount of virus in the community, and as long as that’s the case, people are going to have to wear masks.”

Masks are not theater!
In a Senate Covid-19 hearing today on Capitol Hill, Senator Rand Paul claimed that Dr. Anthony Fauci parades around with 2 masks “for show” despite the fact that he already received the vaccine. In response, Fauci says “Masks are not theater.”

Umm… Actually, masks are theater
Interesting quote from The Conservative Playbook…
On March 18, he told Senator Rand Paul and the world that “Well, let me just state for the record that masks are not theater, masks are protective.”
Paul was asking him why he wore face masks even after being vaccinated, and more importantly why he was telling everyone else to do the same thing. Fauci became indignant about having his immense expertise questioned by a United States Senator (who happens to be a trained doctor as well). After all, he’s THE Dr. Anthony Fauci. NOBODY may question his authority, right?
Today, he finally acknowledged that he was lying when he said it wasn’t theater. In an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, Fauci was asked about how things have changed now that the CDC lifted their face mask guidelines for vaccinated people. It’s important for Fauci to change his tune as the White House now believes face mask freedom is the pathway to get more people vaccinated. Conveniently, Fauci contradicted his own Senate testimony…So, in other words, it was theater.

You don’t need masks outdoors but, you do need masks outdoors
Here is a May 13, 2021 quote from Newsweek…
Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert, confirmed that vaccinated people don’t need masks outdoors days—after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) was criticized for exaggerating the outdoor transmission rate of COVID-19.
“We gotta make that transition. If you are vaccinated, you don’t have to wear a mask outside,” Fauci told CBS News’ Gayle King on Thursday morning. “We’re a very unusual situation. If you are going into a completely crowded situation, where people are falling all over each other, then you wear a mask. But any other time, if you’re vaccinated and you’re outside, put aside your mask. You don’t have to wear it.”
This recommendation is different than what he said a week prior, specifically on May 5, 2021 on the Today show. There he said that the CDC’s guidelines of kids wearing masks outside was “conservative;” to suggest that they were not stringent enough. Listen to his comments on the Today show here.
If this is somewhat confusing for you, allow me to briefly recap Dr. Fauci’s positions.
- Masks are not necessary.

- Masks may never go away.
- Masks are not theater.
- Actually, masks are theater.
- You don’t need masks outdoors if you are vaccinated.
- But, you do need masks outdoors if you are vaccinated and at summer camp.
