I predict Kamala Harris will be our President soon. (Part 2)

Are you familiar with the 25th amendment of the US Constitution? Basically, it says if the vice president and either a majority of the executive Cabinet or a review body appointed by Congress declare in writing that the president is unfit for office, then the vice president immediately becomes the acting president. The law also gives the sitting president a chance to argue that he is indeed fit for office.

I predict in the not too distant future, Kamala Harris will ascend to the office of the President of the United States. I predict that the vehicle of that promotion will be the 25th amendment. Likely, just in time to disrupt the 2022 elections and give Democrats a needed distraction from the likely HUGE defeat that many pundits (left and right) see as inevitable.

My prediction of a soon coming President Harris is not new so, why am I bringing it up again now? Well credible rumors are surfacing of infighting inside the Biden Administration which may speed up the transition. Consider this quote from the “The Cats Roundtable” radio show hosted by John Catsimatidis where political strategist Dick Morris says that Biden’s aides are leaking stories criticizing Harris. Why? Biden’s aides are concerned that Harris will invoke the 25th Amendment in an attempt to remove the president from office.

To quote Dick Morris directly…

The rumor I keep hearing from sources close to the White House is that Biden is getting worse. That the dementia is really becoming noticeable and harder to control and harder to camouflage. I believe there may be a move coming to invoke the 25th Amendment against Biden and replace him with Harris.

So, if Harris takes over, will the left be happy? More importantly, will the country be better off? In my opinion, no on both counts. Why? She has made several missteps as VP and the Biden administration has not positioned her for success; to be fair. (And this makes sense if the rumors of infighting are true.) On June 29, 2021, the NY Times made this sympathetic observation.

Addressing the root causes of migration is one of several jobs President Biden has handed Ms. Harris, who had no deep expertise with Latin America issues or the decades-long quandary of federal immigration reform. He has also asked her to lead the administration’s voting-rights efforts, which are in a filibuster limbo. According to The Times, he has her working on combating vaccine hesitancy and fighting for policing reform, too, among other uphill battles.

So, if you are set up for failure and you have political ambitions, it only makes sense to do all you can to make something positive happen. Even if you fail, people should see you trying. This is not the impression I have. Let’s look at how she has handled three of the tasks President Biden has assigned to VP Harris.

VP HARRIS ON THE BORDER ISSUE

VP Harris was made Border Czar and told to remedy the southern border crisis. Afterwards, she refused to visit the border and from the outside looking in, was not making substantive policy changes to fix the issue. In a now infamous NBC interview, she was pressed on visiting the border and Harris seemed flummoxed by such a predictable question.

And it was deja vous all over again, when she was interviewed by Univision.

Eventually, she visited the border. In part (some say), because Donald Trump said he was going. However, she did not visit the most troubled section of the border. Her border tour was hundreds of miles from the actual crisis. Her critics called it nothing but political theater.

And of course, President Trump made fun of it.

VP HARRIS ON VOTING RIGHTS

Many Democrats have backed H.R. 1, also known as The For The People Act, which would do away with voter ID laws and allow universal mail-in voting. That measure was defeated by the Senate. (Hallelujah) Despite 80% of Americans supporting voter ID laws, VP Harris is still lobbying against it.

Her argument is nonsensical to me and speaks of bias against a large faction of Americans. In a nutshell, Harris argues that voter ID laws would not work because rural Americans do not have access to photocopiers. (Yes, seriously.) The backlash to her argument was instantaneous and mired in sarcasm. This tweet is one such example.

VP HARRIS ON POLICE REFORM

Consider this quote from Just The News which is reporting on a new study by several academic researchers.

A new study by several academic researchers indicates a rising trend in U.S. police resignations over the past year, one that appears to have been exacerbated by the Black Lives Matter-led riots and protests that swept the country last year and generated a massive wave of anti-police criticism.

The study, written by University of Nebraska Distinguished Associate Professor of Criminology Justin Nix and University of Utah PhD candidates Scott Mourtgos and Ian Adams, found that within “a large police department in the western US” voluntary police resignations “increased by 279%” following last year’s protests against the killing of Minneapolis resident George Floyd.

While acknowledging that the study’s hard data are drawn from a single jurisdiction, the author pointed to “journalistic reporting of similar happenings in other jurisdictions, mostly major cities.” Further in the article it reads…

“The main thing to keep in mind is that agencies were struggling to recruit and retain officers even before the Floyd protests,” he said. “It’s been a problem since the Great Recession — but the Floyd protests just made it that much more of a problem.”

How is this study connected to VP Harris? She is an ardent supporter of the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement that has caused the great resignation of police officers. Here are but a few headlines reporting her support for BLM.

How will the American people respond to any message that is not pro-law and order, especially when the affect of BLM and its supporters are quite evident? Moreover, who would believe a flip flop message of pro-police from VP Harris when she has been anti-police for so long. (Or, “re-imagining” police which is another way of saying the same thing. Democrats have been pushing this line for a long time.)

I don’t think VP Harris is ready for prime time. She was assigned tough jobs to be sure yet, she has not risen to the challenge. The ongoing border crisis is evident of that. Her reluctance to listen to 80% of the American people suggests that she has a dictatorial view of governance that is in direct opposition of the ideals of our republic. Finally, considering her support of BLM, I am highly doubtful that our cities will become safer under her watch.

Should VP Harris invoke the 25th amendment and remove Biden tomorrow, there will be some who celebrate it as necessary; albeit regretful. And there are others who would be wildly jubilant that a person of color occupies the White House again. Nevermind her missteps! Nevermind any character flaws. She is black and Indian and that’s all that really matters, right? No doubt the country will prosper based on that alone. Sigh.

A Biden administration has been rough on the country. In some ways, a Harris administration will be worse. I patiently wait for a better option.

Jim

P.S. You might find this article interesting. “Why Do Blacks Hate Kamala Harris? This Black Author Nails It” Its not politically correct but it explains why VP Harris was not wildly supported in the black community when she ran for President and mismanaged her campaign against Joe Biden and others.
